Review - Wet N Wild ColorIcon Bronzer SPF 15 in Reserve Your Cabana

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Is it Friday yet? Because this hasn't exactly been my week. Between work being disappointingly slow and getting hit by sucky side effects from my medication and a (likely lack of caffeine induced) migraine yesterday, I couldn't get much of anything accomplished. Ugh!

On a lighter note, I picked up this "Bronzer" by Wet N Wild, which is really more of a highlighter - you'll see - and to put it lightly, its freaking awesome!

Drug facts are included on the back of the packaging, as this product contains SPF 15, as well as a Skin Cancer/Skin Aging warning (Thank You, Wet N Wild!).

The powder itself is embossed with the brand's name and a sun motif.

So the Reserve Your Cabana "Bronzer" really isn't much of a bronzer, but rather an incredibly pigmented highlighter. It does have warm tones to it, but not so incredibly warm that it looked unnatural against my skin - actually, rather the opposite. The powder is incredibly finely milled and soft, and the amount of pigmentation is spectacular. All I have to do is lightly dust a small, domed brush  to the surface and roll it across my cheekbones.

One of my favorite things about this product is the natural finish to it. Yes, its incredibly pigmented - but it isn't all too frosty. Between the buttery texture and the fine sheen, it imparts such a believable sheen that I've probably reached for it a good 5 days out of the last week.

In all honesty, in a blind test - I probably would have mistaken this for something costing $30 rather than $4.

I've also yet to have any kind of issue with the packaging, as I've run into in the past with budget brands such as Wet N Wild, NYC, etc. The lid snaps shut nicely and doesn't feel all to flimsy.

Overall;

Pros:

- Great pigmentation.
- Buttery and finely milled.
- SPF 15.
- Large amount of product.
- Natural finish.

Cons:

- None!

I'm quite the sucker for highlighters and illuminators, but when a product that sets me back a mere $4 works as great as gems like MAC Lightscapade and NARS Albatross? Lets just say I'm pleasantly surprised. I'll be picking up one of the actual Bronzers from this range to try it out.

You read that correctly. I am going to actually wear bronzer for once. Alert the presses!

10/10 I'm definitely loving this!

Review - MAC Baking Beauties Pearlmatte Face Powder in Pink Buttercream.

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Okay so maybe I'm a sucker for a good presentation. This product can be added to the "I didn't really need it, but its really pretty so I bought it" list..and incidentally is getting longer and longer. But really, look at this thing and tell me it isn't just gorgeous!

Its almost too pretty to use; I just don't want to disturb the design. However, I've gotten confirmation from my local MAC counter that the design runs through the entire product, so you're not going to run out of the periwinkle leaves at the top when you're done with the first layer. The only overspray in this is the silver around the edges.

MAC describes Pink Buttercream as a "light silvery pink base with dark pink flowers and periwinkle leaves". It does lean a bit more pale pink than any of my highlighting products of the same type and, as you can see from the photo, is a good shade for my skin. It's very cool toned, as my natural tone is, so it applies very naturally on me! It isn't the most pigmented highlighting product I have, but in turn its much easier to not overdo this one. The wear time was a little better than what I expected; it stuck around a goof 5 hours before being noticeably faded.

Overall;

Pros:

- Fantastic option for those with very fair to fair skin and cool undertones.
- Great presentation, beautiful to look at.
- Finely milled, no glitter.
- Design runs through the product; not an overspray.

Cons:

- Pigmentation could be stronger.

I was thrilled as to how this shade reacted against my skin. Given it's cooler tones, I can definitely find myself getting a whole lot of use out of this.

Quick MAC Baking Beauties Mini Haul!

Friday, April 19, 2013

With how much hype was surrounding this launch, I knew things would sell out fast. However, I didn't expect Lavender Whip to sell out at my go-to counter on the first day! Thankfully, I work in an area that has an abundance of MAC counters, so going to another location wasn't that big of a deal; but wow!

I ended up going to two counters and picking up Pink Buttercream and Lavender Whip. I also intend on taking a look at Pure Decoration and Raspberry Swirl on a later date - the two shades were "like to have" rather than "must have" shades, so if they're still in stock the next time I go then they were just meant to be. I just HAD to have Pink Buttercream and Lavender whip.

I intend on having reviews posted by Sunday! Stay tuned!

Review - MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

I recently stumbled across Lightscapade at my local CCO, which is in perfect timing, as it is being repromoted in the Hailey Williams Collection (which was rumored to be called of, on again, and had the release date changed to the 9th rather than the 5th. What a mess!) One of my local MUA's swears that Lightscapade is part of the permanent range, but is not available online. Despite the huge fiasco surrounding this product and the coinciding collection; I really do enjoy Lightscapade.

(Note - give the confusion surrounding the launch of this collection, I would call your local MAC beforehand, just in case. I've not been able to find a definitive answer online and am hearing mixed information in store.)

MSFs are a sight to see. The veining creates a customized color, yes, but moreover they are just so stunning to look at!

Lightscapade is a pale, cool toned beige. The beige tones make it very wearable across the board, on many different skintones, while the cooler tones to it set it apart from similar products such as NARS Albatross, which is far more golden in comparison. The consistency is very finely milled and has great pigmentation to it. It is quite soft and blendable and a dream to apply. It has more of a sheen than a shimmer as well, and I didn't find that this accentuated my pores at all.

My only complaint is the wear time; it faded on me at about 4 hours, which is average, but I was holding onto hope for longer wear since this was already so fantastic across the board!

Overall;

Pros:

- Cooler tones set it apart from products of the like.
- Beautiful presentation.
- Finely milled.
- Applies well and blends easily.
- Does not accentuate pores.

Cons:

- Shorter to average wear time.

I was planning on purchasing this with the upcoming collection, but found it at a CCO (and for a better price!). I'm very glad I did; given the confusion about the collection overall and the fact that I've used this quite a bit already. It doesn't really matter how many highlighters you have; Lightscapade is a great addition to your collection.

9/10
