Maybelline Limited Edition Color Whisper in Pop of Poppy

Sunday, June 8, 2014

Ever since my mom surprised me with Coach Poppy last year, I've been obsessed with all things poppy. It may sound silly - I think poppies now make me think of my mom and that makes me happy, so if a product has something to do with poppies, I'm all about it. Does anyone else make connections like that with a beauty product?

So that's why this Color Whisper happened. As soon as I saw the initial launch of it, I knew I'd have to have it - if I could actually find it. That's the frustrating thing about Limited Edition Drugstore Collections; if you don't jump at an item and it sells out, you're screwed. I had to check a couple different locations before I was actually able to find one of these. Though, it was totally worth it.

Can we just talk about how cute the packaging is for the Color Whisper range? I really like the translucency and shine the cap has. It's light and summery and almost jewel like and it makes me happy for some unknown reason.

Pop of Poppy is one of those colors that will literally suit any skin tone. It is a semi-sheer ever so slightly red toned pink shade that can be worn very translucent, but does build quite well on itself to give a pop of pink on the lips. I thoroughly enjoy the formula of this range - I think it's my favorite of the "lip butter" trend - because it's just so lightweight. This is a gel based lip product and you can kind of feel that in the way it applies and wears. Given, it doesn't have a groundbreaking wear time; but not many products of the like do on my lips. I don't know if this range has any sort of lip nourishing ingredient infused in them, but they definitely don't cause any dryness in my lips.

I'm super excited that I was able to round up this shade because, even though I bought it for the name, it really is one of those "staple shades" - especially for the summertime! I do have a few other Color Whispers from the permanent line - Lust for Blush, A Plum Prospect and Ooh La Lilac - and while I do have my eye on a few more, I'm really hoping that Maybelline adds more to this range. They're so effortless and comfortable!

What's your summer go-to lip these days?

Top 5 Picks for Summer - Fragrances

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Here it is! The last installment of my Top 5 Picks for Summer! What better note to end on than fragrances?

Anyone who has been reading this blog for a good amount of time knows that I am a total fragrance hoarder. I have enough body sprays and perfumes to last me for quite a few years! Needless to say, I'm set for any season.

So here they are, my top five fragrance picks for summer!

You're seeing a pattern here; between Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret, I'm set for summer. I tend to wear body sprays versus perfumes as I like to change my fragrance a lot and I wan't something a little less fragile than a glass bottle to pop in my purse to spray on the go. These five fragrances are fun and summery - though I'm not going to lie to you and say I don't wear some of these all year round.

- Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Breeze: A mix of lime juice, jasmine petals and coconut water. This is the perfect coconutty fragrance for those who aren't keen on vanilla fragrances. I love this!

- Bath and Body Works Capri Seaside Citrus: I am a citrus fragrance fiend! This one is a mix of bergamot, muguet and driftwood. Super fresh with a kick of citrus.

- Bath and Body Works Honey Sweetheart: I saw that this fragrance is now 50% off in store as of this weekend! Its a super sweet fragrance of mandarin, honeysuckle and amber and probably has the most adorable name.

- Victoria's Secret Fantasies Citrus Dream: I've been searching for a grapefruit fragrance that isn't too overbearingly grapefruit. This is it. It has grapefruit and red lily and is a great layering fragrance to boot!

- Victoria's Secret Fantasies Mango Temptation: Old school bottle, I know! I'm not keen on eating mangoes, but this fragrance sure does smell wonderful! This is a mix of mango and hibiscus and is super bright and fun.

So this wraps of my Top 5 for Summer series! What are you guys loving for this summer?

Top 5 Picks for Summer - Eyeshadow

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

We're rounding out our Top 5 for Summer theme! After this post there is only one that remains! Woo-hoo!

Instead of choosing shades that I normally gravitate to all year round - neutrals, I decided to jump a little out of my comfort zone and choose my 5 favorite colorful shadows for summer. And to be completely honest, wearing more color hasn't been a struggle for me this year, so I'm super excited!

Without further ado, these are my picks for the Top 5 Summer Eyeshadows

From left to right, and somewhat organized, I have;

- Too Faced Seashell - This shade is from the Too Faced Summer Eye Palette which I reviewed here. Its a matte apricot that has been so fun to use so far!

- Darling Girl Viva La Revolution - Its orange. So out of my comfort zone! But when I wore this, it garnered so many compliments that I'm just in love! I reviewed this here.

- Milani Shocking Pink - A matte hot pink that actually looks pink on my skin. If you listen closely you can hear the Hallelujah chorus.

- Urban Decay Fishnet - An iridescent violet that is super fun.

- Lorac "Purple GLOgetter shade" - I hate it when brands don't name individual shades! UGH! But I adore this purple. Its a warm purple with reddish tones that is super easy to work with. I reviewed the Lorac GLOgetter palette here.

So there you have it; my picks for fun, colorful summer shadows! Keep tuned this week for the last installment for summer picks!

Top 5 Picks for Summer - Nail Polish.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

I've been on my nail polish game this year! (Ironically writing this post with no nail polish on..) I've managed to come across some great shades so far this year and finally successfully swatched out my entire collection, rediscovered some gems and threw out some that were just too old to function.

So here goes; These are my Top 5 Nail Polishes for Summer!

From left to right, these are; Essie - In the Cab-ana, Essie - Turquoise and Caicos, Essie - Sand Tropez, Revlon - Seashell and China Glaze - Pool Party.

The swatches are all on the middle "nail"!

Essie - In the Cab-ana. A bright light blue that is just too fun to pass up!

Essie - Turquoise and Caicos. The name says it all; turquoise and one of Essie's most popular shades.

Essie - Sand Tropez. I had to include a neutral and this one is the perfect, beachy neutral!

Revlon - Seashell. Peachy with pink tones to it. Pastel and lovely.

China Glaze - Pool Party. Even the name is summery! This is a neon pink that totally rocks your enitre summer!

There you have it! We've got two more categories to go, so stay tuned! What polishes are you all loving for summer?

Top 5 Picks for Summer - Blush

Thursday, May 16, 2013

My favorite blushes are usually pale pastels that most people usually hold of on until springtime - For me, on the other hand, you'd have to pry MAC Full of Joy, Illamasqua Katie and Darling Girl Yes, Virginia out of my cold dead hands before I rotate them to the back of my stash when the seasons change.

For summer, however I try my hardest to loosen my grip and wear something a bit more bright and bold. C'mon, I'm so fair skinned that this is the only time of year where I can really pack up some punchy blush without looking like I'm going out on a tropical getaway. ( I mean I live in Florida, but once you live here for 15 plus years even 65 degrees feels cold to you!)

I scoured my stash of blushes and narrowed it down to 5 that my cheeks will be seeing a whole lot of this summer!

From left to right the top row is;

- Tarte Fantastic - This was part of last year's Fantastic Foursome Four Piece Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Enthusiast Set. It is a bright, candy pink with strong blue tones to it and I absolutely adore it against my skin. I'm also quite a fan of Tarte's Amazonian Clay blushes.

- ELF Studio Blush in Pink Passion - Probably the brightest blush in my collection, Pink Passion is a hot, candy pink with a matte finish and pigmentation out the wazoo.

- NARS Orgasm - Yeah, yeah. Groundbreaking choice, huh? It's there for a reason; The big O is a perfect summer shade that will look good on anyone. The golden peachy pink warms up anyone!

- Tarte Magic - Also was in the same set as Fantastic, Magic a pretty true coral - I'm not 100% sure how this is as flattering as it is on my skin, but I'll totally run with it!

And across the bottom because I ran out of room is;

- Boots No.7 Natural Blush Cheek Colour in Coral Flush  - A gutsy pink coral with incredible strength of pigment. This was a forgotten favorite of mine.

As the weather gets warmer, my makeup gets brighter - And I am totally okay with that.

What blushes are you loving for summer? Let me know!

Stay tuned for my other picks for summer, coming soon!

Top 5 Picks for Summer - Lipstick

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I feel like I just blinked once in January and opened my eyes in May; I can't believe its almost summer! Here in Florida, we're starting to feel our summer weather. It's hot and very humid and we're starting to see those afternoon thunderstorms that we are oh so used to every summer roll in.

For me, summer is when I break out my bright, saturated hues that just weren't fitting in my winter rotation. The weather is warm, the sun is bright and so is my lipstick!

You should understand the difficulty I faced when narrowing down my extensive collection to just 5! I'm all about a statement lip!

From left to right, my picks for summer are;

- Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Coralberry - So far as coral as I can get; I only wear this during the warmer months. The pink tones to this make it wearable on my oh so cool toned skin, and it was just too fun and summery to pass up!

- Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Sorbet - Lovely, glossy, neutral toned hot pink with a touch of translucency for that "Popsicle stained" lip look. Bright and easy.

- MAC Shy Girl - While not as bright as its counterparts, this shade gets a lot of rotation in the summer. Nude with a touch of coral that goes great with a coral blush!

- MAC Pink Nouveau - I couldn't leave this one out. The lippie that started it all and a perfect bright pink; not to mention a total compliment getter!

- Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Hot Plum - A bright fuchsia that gets me noticed in all the right ways whenever I wear it!

So there you have it! These five shades will definitely be on heavy rotation for me this summer!

What shades are you loving for the warmer months?

Stay tuned for Parts 2 though 6 later this week!
